Tiger Softball Announces another captain and…

The 2024 softball schedule has been released by Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro, head coach of the Memphis Tigers. The Tiger Softball Complex will host 32 home games in 2024, with the home opener against Northern Iowa set for February 21.

The Tigers’ season will begin on the road in February, traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Phoenix, Arizona, for back-to-back tournaments. Prior to returning to Memphis to conduct their own two tournaments back-to-back.

VanBrakle Prothro expressed his excitement for the 2024 season and the return of Memphis Softball to the field. This team has a well-rounded schedule with some excellent opponents, and I’m excited to watch them compete this season. “Go Tigers, go!”

The Tigers have planned a thrilling out-of-conference game.

Arizona State, BYU, California, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee are among the eight power five opponents in the campaign.

Memphis will host Tulsa to begin American Athletic Conference play on March 8–10.

WICHITA, Kansas — The Tigers’ season ends on Wednesday afternoon in the American Athletic Conference Softball Tournament first round, falling to No. 3 seeds North Texas 7-1.

In the first inning, the Tigers, ranked tenth, were the first to score. Zoe Adebayo gave Memphis a 1-0 lead with a shot to left center field with runners on first and second. Adebayo had his 24th RBI of the year with that.

However, that was the only run the Tigers managed as North Texas started to add runs, first through a solo home run by Mikayala Smith in the bottom of the second. After that run tied the score, the Mean Green added six more points.

Memphis finishes 2024 with a 6-44 overall record and a 1-26 record in conference play.

For the Tigers, it’s the fewest wins in a season in the previous ten years.
