Less than a month after leading the Bulldogs to their first College World Series national championship, Mississippi State head baseball coach Chris Lemonis has agreed to a long-term contract extension, the school announced on Tuesday.

According to a release, Lemonis will receive a base salary of $1.25 million in 2020, with additional annual increases of $25,000. The duration of the contract was not stated.

In his seven seasons as a head coach, Lemonis is 255-128-2, with a 114-37 record during his three years at MSU. This included a 50-18 record this spring, which was capped off by the Bulldogs’ third consecutive CWS appearance and their first national title in any team sport. Lemonis was also awarded NCAA Division I national coach of the year by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The coach said, “I am looking forward to many more years in maroon and white,” and thanked the school administration for their belief in him. As we aim for more titles, we are thrilled about the future and proud of what we have already accomplished.”

In his first two full seasons during the super regional era, Lemonis is the first NCAA Division I coach to make it to the CWS. The coronavirus pandemic prevented the 2020 CWS from taking place.
