The Sparks announced on Wednesday that rookie Cameron Brink of Los Angeles had torn her left knee’s ACL.

The injury occurred during the first quarter of the Sparks’ 79-70 loss to Connecticut on Tuesday night, and the rookie forward needed assistance leaving the court. Before getting hurt, Brink played for less than four minutes and only committed one foul.
The No. 2 pick in the draft staggered over to the sidelines and attempted to head toward the locker room, but the pain forced him to stop. Brink was hoisted off her feet and carried to the locker room by two Sparks employees.

“You never imagine that it will occur to you. And occasionally it does, in spite of all the effort. Though it’s difficult to understand, I know that this will only strengthen me,” Brink wrote in an Instagram post. “I’m not defined by basketball, but it is something I love deeply, and I will work every day to get back to it. I won’t let this life derail me. I will continue to love it.” It’s just see you later, basketball; it’s not goodbye. I’m so appreciative of your prayers and thoughts every time.

In her rookie campaign with Los Angeles (4-11), Brink, 22, entered the game averaging 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks. She and A’ja Wilson are tied for the second-most blocks.
