Deal done: Head coach of Coventry City Mark Robins has signed up for N0 2, 5, 9 and 12.
Robins wants “four more” players before the market closes on September 1st, having signed nine this summer.
“I wanted them in four or five weeks ago but it’s not an ideal world,” he stated to BBC CWR. “I still need numbers but I need quality.”
Before defeating Middlesbrough, City suffered a loss to Leicester in their league debut.
The Sky Blues lost to AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the Carabao Cup in between those two league games.
The departures of striker Viktor Gyokeres for a record eight-figure amount and midfielder Gustavo Hamer have increased Robins’ prospective transfer budget. He has used some of those proceeds to restructure his team.
Japanese midfielder Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and US international striker Haji Wright, who signed for a club record £7.7 million, are two of the new arrivals.
With the return of several important players from injury, such as forward Fabio Tavares and midfielder Callum O’Hare, who have been out since December and January, respectively, Robins’ options will strengthen.
Robin is confident that the new-look Coventry will improve.
The management believes he needs to wait patiently for further arrivals in the interim.
“All options are open to us and we have to ask ‘what is the best scenario for us?'” he stated.
“I’m still searching for players to join; we just need to be sure we bring in the right ones. We need depth.”
“I know I’ve got significant players coming back in Callum and Fabio but we still need the extra numbers.”
