I’m crying because I can’t believe the legendary Gonzaga Zags star is dealing with such a serious injury.

SPOKANE, Washington — As demonstrated by their need to scout a soccer player for their scout squad owing to injuries last season, the fourth-seeded Gonzaga women’s basketball team is accustomed to facing hardships.

Many players are displaying injury symptoms this season, which is consistent with last year’s pattern. However, they do have depth this time around. Lisa Fortier, the head coach, is hoping that her team’s depth would enable them to maintain their dominance throughout the NCAA Tournament.

Numerous seniors on the Gonzaga team have sustained numerous injuries. They’ve had time to play together, and Kaylynne Truong thinks it will work to their advantage. “I believe that having fewer players in the main event last year helped us determine what is required. We understood what we were capable of last year and are bringing that into this year now that most of the team is here.”

The Zags now have three players on the injured list: Bree Salenbien, who tore her ACL earlier in the season, Destiny Burton, who is out for the remainder of the season, and Calli Stokes, who is taking it day by day.

Yvonne Ejim is aware of this team’s resiliency, even in the absence of potentially more key members. “We can still manage to function as a cohesive unit. We continue to locate our options, rhythm, and flow. The fact that the team has so many returning players helps us adapt.”

As they prepare for the NCAA Tournament’s opening round, the Gonzaga women don’t appear to be phased by any team ailments, either out of sheer confidence or simply because they have been through similar circumstances before.

Gonzaga, rated fourth, and 13th On Saturday, March 23, at 4:30 p.m., UC Irvine will square off; ESPN2 will broadcast the match. Visit SWXLocalSports.com to be informed about everything Zags related as they advance through the NCAA Tournament.
