SAD NEWS: The Penrith Panthers head coach has angrily terminated his biggest contract ever due to a serious problem on the ground.
Taylan May, a center, only agreed to a two-year deal with the Penrith Panthers three months ago, and it is apparently the team’s intention to sever his contract. The story was initially broken by the Sydney Morning Herald on Monday night, which stated that May had received a show-cause notice from the Panthers for many infractions under the club’s code of conduct.
The Herald claims that the violations had nothing to do with the claims made by May’s partner, which led to a series of domestic abuse charges against him last month.
Rather, it is said that the violations go back “several years” and occurred prior to May signing a contract extension with Penrith earlier this year.
The report lists two violations: using profanity on social media and uploading a video of himself in the passenger seat of a car traveling up to 96 km/h in a school zone to his Instagram account.
Next Tuesday, May will address the Panthers board regarding his off-field transgressions. Essentially, he will be defending his decision to remain with the team.
May entered a not guilty plea last week to two counts of stalking or intimidating someone else with the aim of instilling fear of physical or mental damage, as well as assault resulting in actual bodily harm.
The 22-year-old will not play for the remainder of the season since he will next play in March 2025, as per the NRL’s “no-fault stand-down” regulations.
