(AP) — Terry McDonough, a former team official, was ordered by an NFL arbitrator to receive nearly $3 million from the Arizona Cardinals for making “false and defamatory” claims about him in the media.
According to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s designated arbitrator, Jeffrey Mishkin, the Cardinals falsely accused McDonough of “extreme domestic violence” and asserted that he “abandoned responsibility” for his daughter and “cut her off financially” in a CounterPoint Statement.
A ruling filed to the federal court on Monday and obtained by The Associated Press awarded McDonough $2.25 million in punitive damages, $600,000 in damages for emotional anguish, and $150,000 in damages for loss to reputation.
