(AP/CBS) — In the first inning of their final 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Colorado Rockies, Bryce Harper was dismissed, causing the league-leading Philadelphia Phillies to lose for the first time since May 16.

Harper looked to object to a ball that was thrown low on a 0-1 count that home plate umpire Brian Walsh deemed a strike, moving the count to 0-2. Harper was facing Rockies starter Ty Blach.

After missing a curveball with his next swing to finish the inning, Harper dropped his bat and hurled his helmet.

After saying something to Walsh, the two-time NL MVP was quickly dismissed.

After Harper was ejected from his 21st major league game, he and Phillies manager Rob Thomson argued ineffectively. After the 0-1 pitch, which looked to be low and inside, Harper had signaled for a timeout.

Harper claimed, “I wasn’t really that upset.” “I obviously spiked my helmet, but I was upset about that throughout the call. I simply asked him, “Hey, wait, that was a strike, but where do you have it?” after that. All I wanted to do was speak with you.

“Again, I didn’t yell, swear or do anything extremely dramatic. That’s basically it. Obviously, I’m not aiming to be ejected from Colorado in the first inning. That’s unfortunate, dude. The game has evolved since I might have homered or doubled in the gap, right?

Harper has a.929 OPS, 12 home runs, 37 RBIs, and is hitting.279 overall.

Crew chief Vic Carapazza told a pool reporter, “Bryce Harper was obviously upset about the pitches, which led to the ejection.” “He was given a long leash by Brian. Bryce kept disputing balls and strikes while he was still in the game. Ultimately, an equipment violation is essentially a serious warning. and Brian had to handle it if you kept bringing up pitches.”

Alec Bohm, the third baseman, went from Harper’s position to first base; Whit Merrifield, the left fielder, shifted to third; Johan Rojas took over in center field; and Cristian Pache moved from center to left.

Before Jacob Stallings’ home run in the bottom of the ninth inning tied the game, the Phillies were leading the league-worst Rockies. Ezequiel Tovar then recorded his fourth hit of the game, a game-winning single, in the bottom of the eleventh inning.

With a.712 winning percentage, the Phillies continue to lead the MLB in wins, and they are off to a historic start to the season. After the defeat on Friday, their record dropped to 37-15.
