NORMAN— Less than a week ago, Jennie Baranczyk and Lisa Bluder crossed paths again. The OU women’s basketballhttp://OU women’s basketball coach and the former Iowa coach were together at a funeral.
Baranczyk didn’t anticipate that Bluder, her mentor and college coach, would soon retire. “She’s humble and blue-collar. I thought she would go for a long time, but I couldn’t be more excited for Jan. I’ve known Jan for just as long,” Baranczyk said on Tuesday.
The Hawkeyes’ assistant for the whole of Bluder’s 24-season tenure, Jan Jensen, was appointed as Bluder’s replacement after the 63-year-old announced her resignation on Monday.
Bluder and Jensen failed to secure Jennie Lillis for Drake and instead lost her to Iowa. Bluder and Jensen had moved on to Iowa by the time Baranczyk graduated from high school, though.
