He is ill again , Harrison Bader….

PORT ST. LUCIE: On his first day with the Mets, Harrison Bader had a significant effect. During Monday’s Mets’ first full-squad session, the center fielder fouled off a ball from Michael Tonkin during live batting practice, and it went through a glass window in the top level of Clover Park.

“Send it to your tab,” an instructor shouted from the dugout.

The Bronxville native could have an influence on the squad on both sides of the ball if healthy, according to the Mets. After a breakthrough season with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018, the 29-year-old Horace Mann product has been among baseball’s best center fielders on a regular basis. Bader had a tremendous postseason at the plate after being dealt to the Yankees in 2022, hitting.333 with five home runs, four walks, and a 1.262 OPS.

However, Bader’s bat has never been reliable, maybe as a result of injuries that have limited his playing time. Bader has been on the injured list seven times since 2017. His most recent spell was in September while he was with the Cincinnati Reds. Bader had surgery to repair a hernia after straining his groin.

Manager Carlos Mendoza, who coached Bader in the Bronx, stated, “He’s been through a lot.” “He is eager to return to being the player he knows he can be after being injured for a few years.”

The 2021 Bader, who hit.267 with 16 home runs and earned a gold glove, is what the Mets are expecting to see. The best OAA he had ever had was 14. However, Bader continued to suffer with his health in 2021, missing games due to a strained right forearm and a tiny rib fracture.

He suffered a strange rib injury in the outfield after a ball broke his fall, but considering his past, he altered his offseason exercise regimen following the 2023 campaign.

“Staying extremely healthy is always the aim, but there were moments when I felt like I was doing everything all day,” Bader remarked. “Before I realized that the season was approaching, the workload alone was nearly exhausting me.” I wanted to accomplish everything at once.
