Despite having low expectations going into the 2024 season, Boston has looked extremely strong thus far. With a record of 6-3, the Red Sox are presently second in the American League East. Though it’s early, some have been taken aback by the Red Sox.
The return of shortstop Trevor Story has undoubtedly contributed to the Red Sox’s success. His bat has started to pick up, and he has played outstanding defense.
Although Story has had a fantastic start to the season, the Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham reports that there’s a good chance he won’t play in another game this year because of a “significant” shoulder injury he sustained Friday night against the Los Angeles Angels.
According to Trevor Story, he had a’significant’ ‘ injury, but there was optimism that he would be able to return to the field this year,” Abraham remarked. “He was incredibly sentimental. For a player who had tried everything to return strong this season, this is terrible news.”
Story has been a breath of fresh air and has helped the Red Sox tremendously defensively so far this season. Story’s injury kept him out of the Boston lineup for the majority of the 2024 campaign, but he recovered in time to play a full season this year.
The disappointing defense that Boston had last season was one of their main problems, but Story’s return helped to address those issues. Story’s injury will be better understood by the Red Sox on Monday, but hopefully he can make a comeback.
