Sad news: The new york mets declear his retirement….

The Mets declared on Sunday that manager Buck Showalter will not be back for the 2024 campaign following his dismissal. The announcement is made the day before David Stearns, an executive with the Milwaukee Brewers, takes office as the new president of baseball operations for the Mets. In a statement, general manager Billy Eppler stated, “We felt that making a managerial change was the right course of action.”

The 67-year-old Showalter’s contract ran out after the 2024 campaign. However, in his two years as manager, he guided the Mets to a 175-148 record. This is the news that precedes his announcement. That includes the 101 victories from the previous year. Unfortunately, the Mets were eliminated in the Wild Card Series and endured a dismal 2023 season that saw them drop out of the running before the trade deadline on August 1.

Since the beginning of the 2019 season, the Mets have been searching for a new captain. And who could that person be? CBS Sports has highlighted five possible applicants for the position below. Remember, at this stage of the process, this is all pretty much conjecture.
