State football coach Mike Leach experienced a ‘massive’ heart attack Sunday and was transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center, according to reports.
The 61-year-old collapsed at his Starkville home but did not receive medical treatment for between ten and 15 minutes, according to the Mississippi Clarion Ledger.
The situation is said to be dire and Leach may have suffered seizures with the chance of brain damage.

EMTs used a defibrillator on the coach and gave multiple shock to restore a regular heart rate.
Leach was then taken to Oktibbeha County Hospital, where he was stabilized, before being transferred to UMMC by helicopter. He is still being cared for at UMMC.
On Monday morning, the university’s football team posted a statement confirming the coach remains in critical condition.
‘Mississippi State University head football coach Mike Leach remains in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson,’ the statement started.

‘Mike’s family is with him and appreciates the overwhelming expressions of love and support for the coach, but also asks that their family’s privacy be respected at this time.
‘That is the extent of information that MSU has available regarding coach Leach’s state, and the university will make no further comment at this time.
‘MSU will issue extra information via social media when it becomes available.’
Two of his four children are said to already be in Jackson, while the other two are on their way to be with him.
The heart attack comes after Leach told ESPN that he had fought pneumonia throughout the regular season but was feeling better.

Sid Salter, top communication officer at Mississippi State, shut down rumors that Leach had died, telling WLBT that any claims suggesting the death of the coach ‘should be ignored.’
‘Coach Leach is a fighter, and he is fighting,’ Salter told the TV station.
Defensive assistant Zach Arnett will serve as interim head coach during Leach’s absence.
No. 22 Mississippi State (8-4) is set to face Illinois (8-4) in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa, Florida, on January 2.
Leach is in his third season with the Bulldogs and has a 19-17 record. Overall, he is 158-107 in 21 seasons at Texas Tech (2000–09), Washington State (2012–19) and Mississippi State.
