ATLANTA (AP) — Following the team’s fifth straight NL East championship, Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker inked a contract extension on Friday that will go through the 2025 campaign.

Before the Braves won 101 games in the previous season, Snitker, 67, led the team to the 2021 World Series title.

After the Braves signed many of its key players to long-term contracts, including first baseman Freddie Freeman and shortstop Dansby Swanson, as free agents in consecutive offseasons, Snitker expressed excitement on Saturday about the team’s future.

Snitker praised general manager Alex Anthopoulos’ efforts in inking new catcher Sean Murphy and other players to long-term contracts.

Snitker told supporters during the Braves Fest at Truist Park, “We’ve done a good job.” “I believe the core group of these guys will be present for this event each year. I believe Alex keeps those young, talented men around because of that.

Murphy was acquired from Oakland and signed a six-year contract worth $73 million. Travis d’Arnaud will share playing time with him.

In the previous year, the Braves also signed long-term contracts with rookie studs Michael Harris II and Spencer Strider, as well as sluggers Austin Riley and Matt Olson.

Ronald Acuña Jr., an outfielder, and Ozzie Albies, a second baseman, have both signed identical contracts with the Braves. Seven of the team’s key players have contracts that are set to expire after three more seasons, and club options could result in even longer terms.

The Braves want a rookie in 2022, In spring training, Vaughn Grissom faced off against Orlando Arcia at shortstop.

Snitker will now be involved for a minimum of three more seasons. He’ll be starting his 47th season with the team and his eighth consecutive season managing the Braves. May 17, 2016, saw him take over as interim manager; later that year, he was given a full-time job.

With Atlanta, he had a 542-451 record after leading the minor levels in victories with almost 1,300.

Snitker has not indicated that he is considering quitting despite having to wait a very long time for his chance to manage in the majors. After taking his wife, Ronnie, on their first one-week excursion to Hawaii following the previous season, he announced that he would be changing one aspect of his offseason routine: returning to the island for longer vacations.

Snitker stated, “That’s the first time I’ve gone on a trip with my wife that wasn’t baseball-related.”

“I said we need to start doing this annually if I want to continue working. Next time, I’m going to aim higher.

After taking home the trophy for manager of the year in 2018, Snitker placed third in the previous season’s poll. He placed fourth in 2020 and 2021 and was a nominee for the award in 2019.

After leading the team to the postseason five times in his first six full seasons, Snitker is the first manager in franchise history to accomplish this feat.
