Good news; After many of waiting the Mississippi state football has officially announced the coming of an all time player.

The 2024 spring game took place this past Saturday, and they’re already seeing movement on the transfer portal. Which players have joined the roster? Who is on their way out? What’s going on with the State Portal targets? Here’s the most recent transfer portal news for Mississippi State.

Following the spring game, Jeff Lebby informed the media that MSU will be recruiting defensive backs through the portal. He didn’t have to wait long to add one, as former Memphis cornerback DeAgo Brumfield committed shortly afterward. Brumfield, who began his career at the NAIA level before signing on for the Tigers, started 12 games in 2023 and led Memphis with 10 pass breakups. He is the second former Tiger to join MSU’s secondary, following Traveon Wright, both of whom are reconnecting with their old DC. Matt Barnes is Jeff Lebby’s co-defensive coordinator and safety coach.

Bulldog quarterback Mike Wright stated on Monday that he would be entering the transfer portal. The athletic athlete joined MSU last season as Will Rogers’ backup after spending his first three years at Vanderbilt. He received regular action as a wildcat quarterback and started three games for the Bulldogs after Rogers went down with an injury. With Blake Shapen taking over as State’s 2024 starter and both Chris Parson and Michael Van Buren being better fits for the offense, it’s understandable that Wright would look for other alternatives in his final year of eligibility.
