Sonny Gray, the current pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, has finally dropped out due to the bad signings the team has been making.

As a result of the St. Louis Cardinals‘ poor signings, current pitcher Sonny Gray has ultimately left the team.

As the team struggles, the St. Louis Cardinals’ expectations of making a turnaround after the disappointing season of the previous year are gradually fading.

The rotation was the Cardinals’ biggest weakness in 2023, and president of baseball operations John Mozeliak solved it by bringing in three experienced pitchers, with Sonny Gray being the most effective.

Even though Gray has been dominant this season from the mound, it seems possible that St. Louis will move him away this summer.

Regarding possible trade alternatives for the Cardinals at this year’s deadline, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer said on Monday, “Veteran starters Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson belong in the conversation as well.”

In 35 1/3 innings thrown this season, Gray has a 4-2 record, a 2.29 ERA, a 44 to 6 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a.215 batting average against, and a 0.96 WHIP.

After signing him this past offseason, St. Louis was looking for a lights-out starting pitcher, and the current American League Cy Young runner-up has been just that—giving up more than two runs in just one of his six games thrown for the Cardinals thus far.

In November of last year, the 34-year-old agreed to a three-year, $75 million contract with a club option that expires in 2027. St. Louis is unlikely to move him given that he signed for such a small salary and is still one of the best pitchers in the league.

Gray has previously been brought up as a potential trade candidate. Some people think that trading him would net the Cardinals a sizable return.

Even if St. Louis goes into rebuild mode this summer, it’s unlikely that they will move him away because they now have the ace they’ve been searching for.
