Due to his wife, The head coach of the Oklahoma Sooner has officially announced his retirement
One of college football’s top coaches is retiring. Following various reports Wednesday afternoon, Oklahoma confirmed that head coach Bob Stoops will step down after 18 seasons. Stoops, 56, stated that his decision was “not health-related.” Lincoln Riley, the offensive coordinator, will take over as head coach after Stoops steps down. Riley, 33, becomes the FBS’ youngest head coach.
After 18 years as the University of Oklahoma’s head football coach, I’ve chosen to stand down. I know there has been some conjecture concerning my health. My health was not a role in this decision, and I have had no occurrences that would prevent me from teaching. “I believe the timing is ideal to hand over the reins,” Stoops said in a statement.
The program is in great shape. We have exceptional players and coaches and are ready to make another run at the Big 12 and national championships. We have new state-of-the-art facilities and an excellent start on next year’s recruiting class. Lincoln Riley will create a seamless transition as the new head coach, leveraging on an already great staff while also bringing familiarity and trust to our players. This is simply the best time for me and our program to make the shift. “The Bible says, “There is a season for everything, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” I am grateful for this season of my life, and I believe I have achieved my mission here at OU.
