According to Damichael Cole, the Memphis Grizzlies beat reporter, the team has announced that former guard Tony Allen’s No. 9 jersey number will be retired next season. This announcement comes more than a month after the team retired Marc Gasol’s jersey number. Memphis originally announced Allen’s jersey retirement in 2017, however it was postponed due to his legal issues. Allen mentioned that he was “looking forward to” retiring his jersey.
The Grizzlies will to retire Tony Allen’s No. 9 jersey next season, the former defensive standout informed the Commercial Appeal. Allen will become the third Grizzlies player to have a jersey in the rafters, following Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.
“I put my mark down and considered Memphis home. “The organization was A-1,” Allen stated. “I have many friends and family in the city. It’s the ‘Grit and Grind’ era, merely the foundation. Obviously, having your NBA number retired is a dream come true. “I just wanted to thank everyone who was a part of this effort. I appreciate it.
