HE IS back. The all-time player for the Chicago White Sox has officially announced his return.

Monday night in Chicago saw Liam Hendriks return to the mound, just a few months after disclosing his cancer diagnosis.

In a thrilling, tearful moment at Guaranteed Rate Field during a 6-4 defeat to the Los Angeles Angels, the White Sox closer made his debut of the season.

Hendriks received a thunderous standing ovation as he took the mound in the eighth inning after revealing in January that he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

The 34-year-old disclosed in January that he had been given a stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis, a type of lymphatic system cancer. Early in April, after finishing his chemotherapy treatments, he declared himself to be in official remission after two weeks. Early in May, the White Sox placed him with their Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte for a rehab assignment.

Hendriks was activated by the White Sox on Monday.

According to Van Schouwen, White Sox manager Pedro Grifol stated, “He looked strong tonight.” “Next time out, I’m sure he’ll look stronger.”

Considering everything that Hendriks has been through over the last few months, it doesn’t really matter that the White Sox lost on Monday despite his lackluster performance.

Hendriks returns to the mound. It is all that is important.
