Terrible report: The Philadelphia Eagles’ top player is suspended for six months as a result of illegal drug use.
Lane Johnson, an offensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, has lost his appeal to overturn a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance rules for the second time. Johnson’s lawyer, Steve Zashin, told Albert Breer of The MMQB that the ban was upheld Tuesday following an appeal that lasted throughout the regular season. Johnson accused the NFL Players Association in August for neglecting to specify which supplements are permitted, according to ESPN.com’s Phil Sheridan.
Johnson received a four-game suspension in 2014 for his first violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy. With the exception of the four-game ban, Johnson has started every game in his four-year NFL career. Allen Barbre will most likely replace the 2013 first-round pick when the suspension was overturned. This would allow rookie third-round pick Isaac Seumalo to take over the starting left guard position. Philadelphia is out to a 3-1 start, but missing Johnson for a lengthy stretch could damage its postseason prospects because of the negative impact the suspension will have on protecting rookie quarterback Carson Wentz.
