“It still hasn’t hit me, but I woke up today super happy,” Barea stated. “My stay in Dallas has been incredible. Nothing would be altered by me.

But today is difficult. My time as a player in Dallas is coming to a close, but I have nothing but fond memories.”

When Barea, 36, signed a one-year contract at the veteran’s minimum of $2.6 million last month, the Mavs expected to release him. This gives the squad one more player than the regular-season roster cap (16 players with guaranteed contracts).

Barea has spent 11 of his 14 seasons with the Mavericks and was a vital member of the 2010–11 championship squad. Dallas owner Mark Cuban wants to honor Barea for his services to the team.
