Her teammates had dispersed. “Bombudd II” by DJ Quik helped to defuse the situation as Taurasi kept preparing for the one thing she has never done more than once: her 19th WNBA training camp was just a few days away, but she had been practicing this manner for months.
“My entire life, I strive to be able to play basketball,” Taurasi said to ESPN. “And it’s exhausting.”
But it’s essential, the 40-year-old stated.
“I think that’s probably the biggest thing to committing to playing during the summer,” Taurasi said. To actually commit to playing for nine months is a big deal. Without all of these, I will not be able to play. I simply understand how much effort it takes to perform at a certain level, and it will show if you don’t.”
In layman’s words, Mercury coach Vanessa Nygaard said, “Time’s undefeated.”
Thus, the athlete who, in the early stages of her professional career, would close pubs and clubs is now shutting down weight rooms. For Taurasi, it’s the new normal; she understands that in order to not just get on the floor but stay there, she needs to regularly adjust every part of her body. After overcoming injuries in each of the previous four seasons, she retooled herself once more to become the player WNBA fans voted as the league’s greatest of all time. The hours she spends now in the training room, weight room, and hot tub in addition to on the court and knowing when to rest will keep her playing as a quadragenarian.
“At this point,” Taurasi stated, “if I half-ass it, it’s not going to look pretty nor will I feel good about it, and I’m just selling myself short and my teammates short.”

The Journey of Taurusi The Mercury’s season began on Friday, the day the team plays the Los Angeles Sparks, in January following her family’s yearly journey to Australia to visit her spouse Penny Taylor’s side of the family.
After suffering a quad injury near the close of a wild 2022 season, Taurasi was finally cleared to return to the gym in December. Once Taurasi returned, the action began.
She worked out six days a week, with Sundays off. Her 90-minute sessions of massage, acupuncture, cupping, and soft tissue manipulation began in the training room. Then, before she ever went the court for individual work, she worked out and did Pilates in the weight room. Taurasi’s days frequently concluded in the hot tub after her workouts in the underwater treadmill in the state-of-the-art pool room. Taurasi refuses to use a cold tub.

With Taurasi healed and Griner back, how good will the Mercury be in 2023?
1yM.A. Voepel High-volume shooting was scheduled for Saturdays. Taurasi frequently set goals for herself, challenging herself to make ten consecutive 3-pointers from different places on the court, sometimes for as long as fifteen or twenty minutes.
From January through May, this was Taurasi’s life, Monday through Saturday, every week. First, the findings were slow to come in. Weeks turned into days. Weeks extended to a month. Four months passed in the span of one.
It was difficult to go to the gym every day, particularly in February and March when the season was still months away. She had many days when she was unwilling to go to work.
A few weeks prior, Taurasi was lamenting that she didn’t feel like practicing when she and Taylor were sitting on the couch at her Phoenix home, watching CNN. Telling Taurasi not to depart, Taylor gave in to her demands. One day, what’s that? According to Taylor, they could sip coffee, watch the news, and relax on the couch. 1:15 p.m. By 1:30 p.m., Taurasi was expected at the trainer’s table.
How did Taurasi act?
She got up from the couch, took the short drive of two minutes to get to the Mercury practice grounds, and arrived punctually in the training room.
Taurasi remarked, “I’m just f—ing too competitive of myself.” “I go to the gym whenever I think, ‘Oh, I don’t want to do this.'” Most likely, it’s unhealthy.
