Charlie Manuel, the former manager of the Phillies who guided the team to just their second World Series victory in almost 150 years, passed away on Saturday in a Florida hospital while undergoing surgery.

The Phillies stated in a statement that the hospital treated Manuel, 79, right away and removed a blood clot. “The next 24 hours will be crucial to his recovery, and Charlie’s family asks that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers at this time.”

Missy Manuel went on in her message, saying, “The Manuel family is very grateful for every post on social media. Charlie is touched by the support of his Phillies fans and family. Missy thinks that the amazing support is helping him heal.”

Why both Phillies players and supporters cherished Manuel
Because to his friendly demeanor and capacity for understanding players, Manuel was well-liked by both players and supporters. Before Manuel was let go halfway through the 2013 season, the Phillies had never had a losing record under his leadership.

Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, and other young players made up the team’s nucleus when he took control, and from 2007 to 2011, he guided them to five consecutive National League East titles.

The Phillies made their first postseason trip since 1993 in 2007. After winning the World Series in 2008, the Phillies made a comeback the following year but were defeated by the Yankees. They advanced to the NLCS in 2010 and then, with 102 victories in 2011, established a new franchise record.
