On Friday, Hall of Famer Larry Brown announced his resignation as special adviser to the Memphis program due to ongoing health concerns.
The school claims that Brown’s medical issues are not given much thought.
At eighty-two, it was Brown’s second season with the Tigers. He had previously taken a medical leave of absence right before the start of the season.

Penny Hardaway, the coach of Memphis, issued a statement wishing Coach Brown, I hope you heal soon. “Over the past year and a half, Coach Brown’s presence in our program has greatly benefited our student-athletes and me as a coach. We wish him continued success and good health.”
Brown is the only coach to have won titles in both college and the NBA. He won out.
the 1988 NCAA title won by “Danny and the Miracles,” Danny Manning, and the 2004 NBA title won by the Detroit Pistons, who were led by Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton.
Brown holds the eighth-most regular-season coaching victories in NBA history with 1,098. Brown qualified for the postseason in 18 of his 26 seasons. He coached nine different clubs, yet he ended up losing 904 games.
Throughout his eleven years as an NCAA head coach, he guided Kansas to two Final Fours and UCLA to one. His last job was at SMU from 2012 until 2016.
Furthermore, Brown was a member of two Olympic gold medal-winning teams: as a player in 1964 and as an assistant coach in 2000.
Brown was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in
2002.

The University of Memphis announced on Monday that Penny Hardaway, a former NBA player, has extended his contract with the school for an additional five years.
$12.25 million will be paid out under the deal through the 2025–2026 season.
Hardaway, a Memphis graduate, has led the Tigers as head coach since 2018.

Hardaway acknowledged the contract in his Instagram story, but he made it clear that his return was unrelated to the money.

He took over for Tubby Smith and guided the squad to a 22–14 season. They won 21 games with a class of recruits he brought in that was rated as the best in the nation the previous season.
Among those recruits was James Wiseman, who was chosen by the Golden State Warriors with the second overall pick; nevertheless, Wiseman only made an appearance before the NCAA suspended him for accepting money from Hardaway to help finance his move to Memphis in 2017. He played three games for the Tigers. As to Jeff Borzello of ESPN, Hardaway was considered a supporter of the governing organization because of a 2008 donation.
“Coaching at Memphis is my dream job,” Hardaway proclaimed. “The trustees, President Rudd, Laird Veatch, and all of you have my sincere gratitude.”
