Heartbreak, The head coach of new Orleans pelicans sheld tears due to coming of Another coach.
NEW ORLEANS: Following the disappointing conclusion of his first season as the NBA head coach in New Orleans on Thursday night, Willie Green made an attempt, but he was unable to hold back his tears.
The man Monty Williams was there.
It’s an emotional anguish that only people who have been there can fully comprehend.
Thus, it made sense that the head coach of the Suns was present to console his close friend during that tearful period.
Williams remarked, “Having to compete against someone you love is hard.” This game evoked a wide range of feelings in me. Although I’m happy that we prevailed, I have experience on the other side. I was so happy for our squad, but all I could think about was Willie. Right now, my emotions and heart are just going through this strange back and forth, yet I’m still happy that I won. For us, it was a really cool victory.
No playoff series can sever the friendship between Williams and Green.
Williams didn’t think twice to console his former primary assistant from the previous two seasons, even though he prevailed this time.
Recap of Game 6: Suns defeat Pelicans to move on to the West semifinals
Analysis: Suns-Pelicans Game 6 key matchups
“I am aware of the contributions Willie made to our program,” Williams remarked. And his program this year allowed you to witness it. When things weren’t going well earlier in the season, I spoke with Willie Green frequently. He is one of the most solid guys I’ve ever met, and he persevered through everything. That’s among the reasons they keep becoming better.
Despite starting the season with a 1–12 record and playing without All-Star Zion Williamson (foot) due to injury, the Pelicans, as the ninth seed, made it to the play-in round. In order to earn the eighth seed in the Western Conference playoffs, they defeated San Antonio before traveling to Los Angeles and shocking the Clippers.
The only playoff team with a losing record was New Orleans, but they forced the number one seed to play beyond its comfort zone and ultimately lost the series in six games.
