Terrible , i find it heart broken that the new york mets head coach announce his resignation just to sign contracts with another team.

Buck Showalter was let go on Sunday following a dismal season in which the team with the greatest spending in baseball was eliminated by July.

The Mets revealed the decision to make the adjustment a few minutes after the 67-year-old Showalter declared before the 2023 finale against Philadelphia that he would not be returning the following year.

David Stearns will be elevated above general manager Billy Eppler to the position of president of baseball operations by New York on Monday. Stearns may choose the next manager now that Showalter is leaving after just one season left on his three-year deal.

“They have the right to bring in their own people when they hire a president of baseball operations,” owner Steve Cohen said at a quick press conference following the game. He clearly wanted to move in a different way, and I respected that prerogative. It is exactly the same as when a CEO joins a new organization. Some of their own folks they invite in.

“This is not a reflection on Buck,” Cohen said. Buck carried out what we asked of him. Naturally, the season was a letdown, but Buck isn’t to blame, is he? It runs throughout the company.

Before managers were decided to be changed, Showalter and Stearns did not talk.

I am aware of those responsibilities, Showalter stated. In football words, a lot of coaches arrive and want their offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator. I make an effort to live in the now and not concentrate on such issues. Baseball has, all things considered, been rather fair to me.

The fourth-place Mets lost 9-1 on Sunday, putting them at 74-87 and 30 1/2 games behind NL East winner Atlanta. Showalter oversaw the game. He then declared that he would be open to managing in the majors once more.

Of course, he said. Personally, I feel fantastic. Holding this together in the clubhouse all year has made me very proud. Being able to keep that from being the main focus and actually remain on top of things has been one of the hardest challenges of my career.

Publicity

Players and coaches emerged from the dugout before the game to join the cheering of the crowd as Showalter handed the lineup card to home plate. Returning to the bench, he gave them a salute, and the scoreboard showed his picture with the words, “Thank You Buck.”

According to Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, bench coach Eric Chavez suggested the ovation.

Nicely done. Amazingly cool, Lindor commented. I wish it had not transpired that way, though. Would that he were still here.

Showalter took over in December 2021 and guided the Mets to an NL Manager of the Year award-winning 101-61 record in the following season. After losing to San Diego in their wild-card series, New York strengthened its pitching staff in the summer by bringing in three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander. On opening day, the Mets increased their payroll to a record $355 million, although they ultimately dealt Verlander, Max Scherzer, and a number of other veterans before the August 1 trading deadline.

Publicity

“I was honored to get a chance to manage a second New York team,” a visibly moved Showalter, who led the Yankees from 1992 to 1995, said at his pregame press conference. The Mets accomplished something of which I am proud. In two years, we almost won 180 games. Particularly last year, I had the greatest gaming experience of my life. It brought to memory the reasons I have always enjoyed this kind of job.

“I wish this season had gone better because Mets fans deserve it. Though I make an effort not to live in that world, I always wonder in my heart what would have happened if this or that had occurred. “I love this city and the players even though this isn’t the ending I wanted.”

There has already been conjecture that Stearns may try to sign Craig Counsell, the Milwaukee Brewers manager who is serving his last season of contract. Before resigning and taking on an advising position, Stearns oversaw Milwaukee’s baseball operations division from September 2015 until the 2022 season.
