The Tar Heels head coach has been suspended due to a misunderstanding, which is unbelievable news for the brave fans.

The courageous Tar Heels supporters are shocked to learn that the head coach has been suspended because of a misunderstanding.

The University of North Carolina is looking to a Tar Heel who has driven that success both on the court and from the bench to carry on its illustrious men’s basketball heritage.

Hubert Davis, who spent nine years as an assistant coach at UNC and assisted the Tar Heels in two Final Fours and a national championship as a sharpshooting guard, has been chosen as the new head coach of Carolina’s men’s basketball team. A wide range of candidates were interviewed by Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham and Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz from coast to coast, including feedback from senior Department of Athletics officials and dozens of men’s basketball alumni. Davis was selected by Guskiewicz and Cunningham due to his commitment to student-athletes, leadership, strong work ethic, willingness to serve, and competitive spirit.

The Hall of Fame Head Coach, Roy Williams, who declared his retirement last week, is succeeded by him. At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Dean E. Smith Center, Davis will be publicly presented. The news conference’s time and specifics will shortly be released.

“Being given the chance to lead this program makes me feel both honored and humbled,” Davis remarked. “Without Coach Roy Williams, Coach Bill Guthridge, and Coach Dean Smith, I would not be here. They taught me so much, and I can’t wait to follow in their footsteps while wearing my shoes and bringing my personality with me. Without Chancellor Guskiewicz and Bubba Cunningham, I would also not be here. I am grateful for their confidence in me and am looking forward to collaborating closely with them.

“I adore this university.” This place has seen me play, receive my degree, fall in love with my wife, get married, relocate after my NBA retirement, and raise my family. I’m excited for everything that lies ahead and am honored to be the team leader.

“Hubert Davis is the best leader we can have for our men’s basketball program,” Cunningham stated. Students and athletes learn from him both on and off the court. He motivates the other employees. He has a deep commitment to his family. I have no doubt that he will make sure that our student-athletes and program are the best they can be. We have seen his relentless, burning drive to be the best that he can be when he was a player, a broadcaster, and an assistant coach.

Hubert Davis, the nephew of NBA All-Star and former UNC star Walter Davis, was recruited by both Williams, the assistant coach at the time, and the renowned coach Smith. At first, coaches didn’t think Davis could play at the ACC level, so they didn’t offer him a scholarship to Carolina. In answer, Davis said, “If you don’t give me a chance, you won’t know.” They succeeded in the end, and the rest is history in Carolina.

Burke, Virginia native Davis participated in 137 Tar Heels games between 1988 and 1992; Carolina finished 102-37 in that time, winning the 1989 and 1991 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournaments and making it to the 1991 Final Four, where he scored twenty-five points against Kansas in the national semifinals. In addition to holding the UNC record for career three-point percentage (.435), he had 23 games with 20 or more points.

He was selected by the New York Knicks as the 20th overall choice in the 1992 NBA Draft after earning a degree in criminal justice. He played professionally for 12 years, amassing 5,583 points during that time. With a career three-point percentage of.441, he presently holds the second-highest record in NBA history.

Before Williams hired Davis back to Carolina as an assistant coach and eventually head JV coach, Davis spent seven years working as a commentator and co-host of College GameDay on ESPN. When Davis was hired, Williams claimed that he was the ideal candidate because coaching is about passion, relationships, and teaching, and Davis possesses all three.

“Hubert Davis is our next men’s basketball coach, and I am very pleased that he will continue his outstanding Carolina career,” Guskiewicz stated. “He has a great enthusiasm for placing our student athletes in the greatest possible position to thrive both on and off the court by making a clear connection between our bright future and our illustrious past. His arrival on campus as the face of our men’s basketball program excites me. Micah, Bobbie Grace, and Elijah are the three children that Davis and his wife, Leslie, have. The details of his contract will be made public later. He will take over as head coach immediately.
