As a result of domestic violence, the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs has been fired.

San Antonio: Gregg Popovich may have been on the verge of losing his job, but he will retire when the time comes.

The Spurs faced the Houston Rockets early in the NBA lockout season of 1998–1999, with a 6–8 record. This information comes from former Spurs guard Antonio Daniels.

That game was ultimately won by the Spurs, 82-99. Tim Duncan contributed 23 points, 14 total rebounds, and 5 rebounds in over 40 minutes of play in the victory. And Popovich’s decision to attribute his career to Duncan makes perfect sense.

Daniels asserts that the Spurs team had a “players only meeting” before that evening to talk about Popovich’s future. The squad was having trouble during the brief season, so they had to act quickly to make some decisions. They made the decision that Popovich would be under pressure and possibly fired if they lost that game.

Thankfully, the Spurs prevailed and launched the San Antonio dynasty, which would grow in the future.

Through “The D.A. Show”:

Daniels stated, “We had talked about the fact that Pop was going to be gone if we didn’t get this together.” “We went on an incredibly nice run after that game in Houston, which we ultimately won.”
But consider how history would have changed if they had dismissed Gregg Popovich. Daniels stated, “But if we did not win that game in Houston and struggled a little bit more,”
“We’re discussing an entirely different coach and an entirely different individual than the Gregg Popovich that we discuss today,” Daniels declared. “This was my father two years ago. His first year was as Tim Duncan’s coach in his rookie year. Tim and I were drafted in tandem. In actuality, that was Pop’s first whole season; I was in Vancouver and Tim was in San Antonio. Thus, we are not discussing a champion coach who has attained recognition and all these other things. We are discussing a coach who attempted to instill his culture within the San Antonio Spurs.
Daniels goes on to discuss how Popovich attempts to approach each player from the premise that he recognizes their individuality. He is unique and highly regarded because of this.

Nobody, in my opinion, can envision the San Antonio Spurs without Popovich. Though it’s more likely than ever that he will actually leave the game,.

He will remain with the Spurs when his current contract expires, though it is unclear how many more seasons he has left in him.
