As a result of demostic violence, the head coach of the Hamilton Tigers has been fired.

Briles will take on the role of assistant offensive head coach, the Canadian Football League franchise announced on Monday morning. By late evening, the league and the Ticats had issued a joint statement announcing that Briles would not go to the CFL in response to a fierce public outcry from fans.

After a sexual assault scandal rocked the football team at Baylor University in Texas, Briles lost his last position as head coach. An independent external study claims that Baylor administrators intentionally discouraged certain complainants from reporting, disregarded appropriate protocols when handling incidents of sexual assault, and, in one instance, retaliated against a student who did disclose an assault. According to the report, the school’s actions “created a cultural perception that football was above the rules.”

Additionally, according to Baylor, Briles neglected to disclose, even after becoming aware of, an alleged gang rape involving five football players. In a court filing, school administrators said that Briles was mostly responsible for concealing player misconduct.

Tommy Condell, the offensive coordinator and associate head coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, has left the team in what the team described as a mutual decision.

“This is a really challenging day. I’ve known Tommy since the year 2013. He is a remarkable man with unmatched imagination and work ethic. “His track record as a coordinator and quarterback development specialist with Hamilton is truly remarkable,” head coach and president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer stated in a release.

He has coached the Ticats for seven seasons and has been a member of four Eastern Division-winning teams. Without a doubt, Tommy has contributed significantly to the organization’s pursuit of excellence. We appreciate all that he and his family have done and wish them continued success.

After taking on the position for three years as Hamilton’s offensive coordinator in 2013, Condell abruptly left the position in April 2016 and stated his family as the reason for his resignation. After taking a year off from football in 2017, he joined the Toronto Argonauts as the receivers coach. He played two seasons and won one Grey Cup with the team.

The Utica, New York native came back to the Ticats in 2019 to serve as their offensive coordinator. In 2022, he was promoted to associate head coach.

Due to major injuries to Matthew Shiltz and Bo Levi Mitchell, Hamilton has started three different quarterbacks this season. In terms of net yards per game, offensive points per game, completion percentage, passing yards per game, rushing yards per game, and turnovers, the offense is ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and ninth, respectively.

The senior assistant for the team, Scott Milanovich, will assume play-calling responsibilities on offense. After serving as the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterbacks coach for the previous two seasons, the seasoned coach joined the team in the off-season. His final stint in the CFL came in Edmonton, when he was hired to take over as head coach prior to the 2020 campaign, but he never got to coach a game because the 2020 season was canceled.

The 50-year-old Butler, Pennsylvania native led the Toronto Argonauts for five seasons (2012–16), winning the Grey Cup in his first season in the position. As the offensive coordinator for the Montreal Alouettes in 2009 and 2010, he had already won two Grey Cups with the franchise.
