AFTER many years of waiting, The Ajax Amsterdam head coach have received a permission to move ahead and…

Official word from Ajax has been received that head coach Alfred Schreuder has been fired.

After his predecessor went to join Manchester United, the 50-year-old coach took over at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. However, a run of bad results in the last few games forced the team to fire Schreuder.

The team has only managed one win in its previous eight games, including a draw against Feyenoord last weekend, after having had a great start to life in Amsterdam with six straight victories across all competitions.

Edwin van der Sar, the director of football, expressed on the team website that while he is unhappy that this occurred, a decision had to be made.

In the past few weeks, we have also dropped a lot of points, and regrettably, we have not made any progress.

After working for Club Brugge for six months, Schreduer joined Ajax, taking the place of Philippe Clement, who later signed with AS Monaco, a Ligue 1 team. In that time, he went on to win the Belgian Pro League, preventing Royal Union Saint-Gilloise from winning their first top-tier championship since 1935.

The club also terminated the contract of assistant coach Matthias Kaltenbach.
