We are entering a new era. Sandy Brondello, the new head coach of the New York Liberty, was formally introduced to the media and Liberty supporters on Friday afternoon.
Clara Wu Tsai, the NY Liberty Board of Governors, and General Manager Jonathan Kolb discuss why @SBrondello is the ideal coach to guide the Liberty to future success.
Following that, she participated in a virtual press conference with Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb and team co-governor Clara Wu Tsai. Here are a few of the conference’s highlights, which lasted an hour. Regards, @MylesEhrlich
Regarding joining Liberty:
It’s thrilling. This is a brand-new, incredibly talented team… We’ll be a stronger team in 2022, I’m sure of it, and these players are prepared for such a situation. As a former player, I understand the value of relationships.
—After departing from the Phoenix Mercury:
“I had eight wonderful years in Phoenix, but I don’t want to dwell on the past right now. I had eight fantastic years working for that organization, so I’m thrilled that this is a wonderful fit for me.

Regarding the requirements for Liberty
“Defense is where they can improve the most, and I think I can help them establish a stronger identity there.”
Regarding the use of Betnijah Laney and Sabrina Ionescu in the offense:
“That’s still a work in progress, but you know they’ll be a big part of the offense. Because they’re a big part of the action, it’s more about positioning them where they can succeed in the offense.”
Regarding the increasing quantity of female WNBA coaches:
It has great significance. Everybody here is a coach. We are basketball coaches—we are neither male nor female coaches. Nevertheless, it’s encouraging to see women gaining those chances. former athletes being granted those chances.
“I had seen the game against Washington.” You guys had us; we had to adapt to all the switching and aggression. You found that chemistry, that fight, and that commitment.
General Manager Jonathan Kolb stated that Liberty will be active when free agency opens on January 15.
To put it mildly, our goal is to improve. This class is excellent. We believe we have players we can pursue and improve, so our team has real depth and isn’t overly dominated by the elite players.
The co-governor of Liberty, Clara Wu Tsai, was also present for the press conference. Wu Tsai, who recently declared that she and her spouse Joe Tsai intended to invest in Liberty similarly to how the Nets do, discussed the importance of helping players during their playing careers and in retirement.
“Very fulfilling,” she exclaimed, summarizing the encounter. “In my opinion, we truly understand this comprehensive viewpoint. Winning a championship is a goal shared by all, but it goes beyond that.as well
