Heartbreaking news: The Hamilton Tigers Cats head coach, Scott Milanovich, has been suspended after she proved that all mens should…
It doesn’t seem like the Hamilton Tiger-Cats would turn down Scott Milanovich if he had the opportunity to take a head coaching position in the CFL this off-season, at least not in public.
“Scott is someone I would really like to keep, but we also like to see people succeed and do what’s best for their families. We have an amazing friendship, and I’m really appreciative that Scott agreed to come in, lend a hand, and participate. Scott’s return would be wonderful, but we don’t hold anyone back—rather, we push them to reach their full potential,” head coach and president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer remarked.
“I don’t talk about where he might run for office or where he might not; I’m just stating that we always support our personnel when opportunities arise. That doesn’t imply that we wouldn’t organize a plan to attempt to retain Scott.
After offensive coordinator Tommy Condell was fired in August, Milanovich assumed play-calling duties for the offense after joining the Ticats in May as a senior assistant. Hamilton was 3-5 with a 20.0 point per game average while playing for Condell. After Milanovich took control, the black and gold finished 5-5 and averaged 24.8 points per game, good enough for a position in the East Semi-Final.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders, who are currently without a head coach after Craig Dickenson was not extended, have been linked to the Butler, Pennsylvania, native. If hired, Milanovich would provide Regina with a wealth of coaching expertise, having previously worked with Trevor Harris, the quarterback for the Riders. Although formal interviews have not yet taken place at Saskatchewan, general manager Jeremy O’Day anticipates hiring by the end of November.
From 2012 to 2016, the 50-year-old led the Toronto Argonauts to one Grey Cup victory as their head coach. In addition, he was the offensive coordinator for the Montreal Alouettes, a franchise that won two CFL titles.
In 2020, Milanovich was appointed head coach of Edmonton, but the season was canceled, so he never got to play on the pitch. The next year, he quit to take a position with the Indianapolis Colts as their quarterbacks coach, a position he kept for two years.
After missing the playoffs in the first round for the second straight year, it is still uncertain if the Tiger-Cats will hire a new head coach, so Milanovich might have the chance to take over in Steeltown. If Steinauer returns in 2024, though, it doesn’t seem like he intends to obstruct Milanovich’s possible departure for the prairies.
