Due to his parents, the all-time player for the Texas Longhorns has officially announced his departure from the team.

Texas Longhorns quarterback Maalik Murphy is reportedly planning to use the NCAA transfer portal in a huge move, according to ESPN. While quarterback Quinn Ewers was sidelined, the star player was able to fill in and put up a fantastic performance. However, he is currently considering playing football in college at a different university. Might his exit herald the beginning of Texas’s “Arch Manning” era?

ESPN reported that Murphy had discussed his decision with the coaching staff.
On December 13, ESPN’s Peter Thamel revealed Murphy’s intentions, stating: “Source: Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal.” He has informed the coaching staff in Texas about his plans.

In two of this season’s games—against BYU and Kansas State—Murphy started at quarterback and performed admirably in Ewers’ absence. Against BYU, he had two touchdown passes and completed 64 percent of his throws. Against Kansas State, he threw a ball to Adonai Mitchell that resulted in a 37-yard touchdown in the first quarter of play.

According to Horns 247, he also participated in games against Houston, Oklahoma State, Rice, Baylor, Kansas, and Houston.

With seven players signing up through the NCAA transfer portal, the Texas Longhorns’ wide receiver depth chart may take a hit. The most recent player to declare intentions to use the transfer portal is Casey Cain. Should other important players, like Xavier Worthy, be selected in the draft, Texas might have voids to cover in the upcoming campaign.
