Due to a misunderstanding, the head coach of the Sydney Rabbitohs has officially announced his contract termination for.

At the Rabbitohs’ Maroubra headquarters, former Broncos assistant coach Demetriou abruptly left the media after fielding four questions in an attempt to keep his job.

The South Sydney coach did not show up for work this week, raising doubts over whether he will continue in that role should the Rabbitohs lose to Cronulla on Saturday.

Demetriou’s press conference lasted less time than Wayne Bennett’s eighty seconds of responses following a 2020 Penrith loss and Darius Boyd’s notorious forty-two-second effort from 2009.

Demetriou spoke for 73 minutes in what might have been his final pre-game press conference.

Given the external discussion around his work, Demetriou mostly shrugged off the subject when asked how he was.

“This week at training has been fantastic. “The level of energy this week has been exceptional,” he remarked.

Demetriou was furious when asked how he had ignored the conversation.

“There are some new guys joining us. He stated, “Jye Gray, Ty Munro, and Davvy Moale’s back.”

“The energy they’ve brought excites me.”

“I’m really excited about the performance,” Demetriou said in response to a question about how it had affected him personally. I’m eager.

When asked at last if he thought coaching was his job, Demetriou gave a succinct response before heading right back into the club’s offices.

“I think we’re going to get a great performance this week, and that’s what I’m coaching for,” he declared.

Blake Solly, the CEO of South Sydney, was in attendance at the press conference location.

This week, Demetriou has been the focus of rumors that, should he be fired as Rabbitohs coach, Mal Meninga is already being considered as a possible stand-in.

Options for Wayne Bennett and assistant Ben Hornby for the following season have also been raised.

Positioned atop the ladder following 11 rounds in the previous season, the Rabbitohs experienced the greatest surrender in Premiership history when they crumbled to miss the finals entirely.

The Rabbitohs are now lowest on the ladder with one victory and four defeats in 2024 as a result of their ongoing losing streak.

After their bye the following week, the Souths face Melbourne and Penrith, the three-time defending premiers, even if they triumph on Saturday night.

A three-match suspension for star fullback Latrell Mitchell, who has had a contentious start to the season, hasn’t helped Demetriou’s cause.

In addition, he called for the dismissal of NSW State of Origin hooker Damien Cook, three weeks after halfback Lachlan Ilias was fired.

Due to this, Cody Walker, an out-of-form five-eighth, is the only member of the team remaining from the round-one bye.

Although Demetriou has been successful everywhere he has coached in the past, Sam Burgess’s reservations about Mitchell and Walker receiving special treatment coincided with last year’s downturn.

Burgess eventually left the team prior to the conclusion of the season, and his subsequent return to the Rabbitohs would be viewed as a long-term option.
