As he continues to build his team’s boundaries with this enormous trade, Greg Schiano has just revealed another incredible addition to his squad.
Rutgers has been described by Greg Schiano as a developmental program, and he will now have even more time to grow it.
Following his first 6-6 season since 2014, Schiano has signed to a contract extension that will keep him in Piscataway as head coach through 2030. Schiano’s salary for the upcoming season is $6.25 million.
Schiano remarked, “I would like to thank the Board of Governors, President Holloway, Athletic Director Pat Hobbs, and our entire team for their continued belief in what we are building.” “My family and I call Rutgers home, and we feel privileged to be able to establish a championship program here in New Jersey.”
Pat Hobbs, the athletic director, made the announcement on Wednesday.
Hobbs declared, “It’s a great day for Rutgers Athletics.” “Coach Schiano has changed our program in just four years, and this year we are bowl eligible. When creating successful programs, continuity is essential. To guide the Scarlet Knights in the upcoming years, we have the ideal personnel and captain.
This season, Rutgers won six games under Schiano’s direction for the first time in almost ten years. With three Big Ten victories, the Scarlet Knights tied a program record and improved defensively, led by Kyle Monangai, the league’s top rusher.
In terms of overall defense, the Scarlet Knights were 19th in the country, giving up 313.7 yards per contest. Additionally, they ranked ninth in red zone defense and eleventh in passing yards allowed (175.9). Rutgers’ 27th-ranked opponents scored 21 points per game against them.
Maintaining his players’ academic progress has been Schiano’s top goal off the field. Rutgers has had 195 honorees named to the Academic All-Big Ten list since his return to campus in 2020. In the spring of 2023, the team achieved its highest GPA ever.
Going into 2024, Schiano has a large number of elite players on both sides of the ball. A contract extension has now been added as a result of this season’s success. In the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on December 28, Rutgers will keep getting ready to play Miami.
