They play multiple sports at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, unlike what some people would think. The football program has produced a good number of well-known and significant players, even if the basketball team receives the majority of the recognition and awards. Perhaps the finest player in NFL history overall, Lawrence Taylor was the best defensive player.
He played linebacker for UNC and was an All-American before he became a devastating pass-rusher with the New York Giants. He is widely acknowledged for having altered both the offensive and defensive strategies used in the game by emphasizing the need of left tackles, linebackers, and pass-rushing defensive ends to defend the quarterback’s blind side.
