Don Deal: The Giants are pleased to welcome a top player worth $290,000

Just last offseason, the New York Giants signed Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract. This makes it challenging to move on from the starting quarterback, assuming that Jones is valued similarly throughout the league to how the Giants currently do.

Eisen also feels that Saquon Barkley, the running back, should have received the money from the Giants rather than Daniel Jones.

On Sunday, January 7, 2024, New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, 26, takes the field at MetLife Stadium.
Eisen also stated in a Sports Illustrated story that he thought the Giants ought to have paid star running back Saquon Barkley in the summer rather than Daniel Jones.

On his podcast, The Rich Eisen Podcast, he stated, “I just don’t understand why wasn’t Saquon worth the (Christian) McCaffrey money.” The distinction is that, despite Christian McCaffrey’s $16 million salary, people were shocked when he rejected an amazing contract worth $12–$13 million year.

“We’re going to sign Daniel Jones to a long-term contract, and this just serves to highlight how important Saquon is to this offense. I should note that it’s tough to watch him be injured or battered as much as he does. Furthermore, Jones has a long-term contract after suffering a blown-out knee and a neck injury.

Edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux of the New York Giants stated in the same Sports Illustrated article that he believed Barkley ought to have received compensation before anyone else.

“Talking about the playoff game we won that year. Saquon should have received payment first, in my opinion, because that would have upheld the integrity of our collaborative work and our shared beliefs, Thibodeaux added.

GM Joe Schoen has ruled out the prospect of applying the franchise tag to the standout running back, thus it appears that Barkley will get the chance to test the waters of free agency this offseason.

Daniel Jones of the New York Giants is still a quarterback that raises a lot of issues.

On October 8, 2023, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (8) exits the game due to an injury versus the Miami Dolphins during the second half of an NFL game.
In addition to his propensity for injuries, which prevented him from playing through the end of the 2023 season, there are a lot of unresolved concerns over Daniel Jones’ capacity to guide the New York Giants when healthy.

Jones has been wildly unreliable as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants, despite the fact that he did lead them to a playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the 2022–2023 season. With almost 300 passing yards and two touchdowns, Jones had a strong performance in the contest.
