Ajax has declared that they and Abdelhak Nouri’s family have come to a settlement about the money owed after Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest in 2017.
When the young Dutchman went into a coma, the football world was appalled by his plight, and many tributes poured in for him.
In an amicable accord, the family of Nouri reached a settlement with Ajax for €7.85 million (£6.5 million/$8.9 million), bringing an end to the procedures that were brought before the KNVB Arbitration Committee.
“It’s good that an agreement has been reached so that we can wrap this up,” stated Edwin van der Sar, CEO of Ajax. It is evident to all of us that Abdelhak and his loved ones are still going through pain. It’s still a very depressing scenario, and we at Ajax feel the same way.
“We are really grateful for the loving and caring way the family looks after Abdelhak every day. The family usually extends a warm welcome to me when I see him. That also holds true for our other Ajax colleagues, and we are really grateful for that.
“The number 34 will never be used at Ajax again, unless both Ajax and the Nouri family decide to make an exception. Additionally, Abdelhak’s dressing room furnishings will be positioned in the Ajax Fanshop, next to the [Johan Cruyff] ArenA’s main entrance.
“We have carefully preserved that in the stadium in recent years and we are now going to give a beautiful place that is accessible to everyone.”
Father of Abdelhak, Mohammed Nouri, stated: “This summer marks the fifth anniversary of Abdelhak’s unfortunate event. His care has consumed the last few years. This has given us many priceless things in addition to all the challenging times. It is quite consoling to realize that Abdelhak represents unity and fraternization to a great number of individuals.
