Shocking news: A star player for New York Mets is banned while sending a powerful statment to the team
The New York Mets are among the teams in Major League Baseball that are getting ready to cut down to a 26-man roster in advance of Opening Day.
There were some doubts about who would truly be on the roster for Opening Day because this seems to be a transition year as the front office and coaching staff get ready to assess the youthful talent that will be scattered around the squad this season.
Though there are many players and prospects who could have made the team, the veterans and well-known stars are undoubtedly secure.
However, SNY reports that the Mets have chosen to remove six players from the mix, one of whom is a shocking name.
They say that infielder Yolmer Sanchez, outfielders Ben Gamel and Trayce Thompson, and pitchers Kyle Crick, Yacksel Rios, and Cole Sulser have all been moved to their minor league camp.
Out of this group, Thompson is the one that grabs attention.
During Spring Training, he has been among New York’s finest players. He now has six RBI, which ties him for the lead, and he has six hits overall in 24 at-bats, including two doubles and a home run.
After being acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade that summer, the seasoned outfielder enjoyed his greatest season with the team in 2022. Throughout 74 games, he had a slash line of.268/.364/.537 with 13 home runs, 28 extra-base hits, and 39 RBI.
