Due to Ottawa senators all times key player retirement has made Ottawa lose many fans, this is so terrible to learn.

After the 2023–24 season, Jakob Silfverberg will retire from the National Hockey League, the forward for the Anaheim Ducks stated on Thursday.

Silfverberg spent twelve seasons as a player with the Ottawa Senators and Ducks. The 33-year-old will skate Friday (10 p.m. ET; KCOP-13, SN1) against the Calgary Flames in his final Ducks home game.

In a statement, Silfverberg said, “Playing in the National Hockey League has been an honor and a privilege.” “I would want to express my gratitude to the Samueli family for being kind, community-focused business owners that help their team and have a big influence on our neighborhood. Without my colleagues, as well as the instructors and personnel who have supported me along the journey, I obviously wouldn’t be where I am now. Above all, I want to express my gratitude to my family for helping me realize a goal.”

This season, Silfverberg has played in 78 games with the Ducks and has 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists). On April 18, Anaheim (26-48-5) plays the Vegas Golden Knights to round up the season.

Since joining the Ducks in a trade with the Senators on July 5, 2013, Silfverberg has played in 769 regular-season games and scored 354 points, ranking sixth in goals and seventh in points in franchise history. After the deal, he scored the most goals for the Ducks ever (158), and from 2013 to 2018, he participated in six straight postseason visits, including two trips to the Western Conference Final in 2015 and 2017. His 25 assists rank seventh in Ducks postseason history, while his 16 goals and 41 points rank fourth.

    After being chosen by Ottawa with the 39th overall pick in the second round of the 2009 NHL Draft, Silfverberg spent one season with the Senators (19 points; 10 goals, 9 assists in 48 games) before being traded to Anaheim along with forward Stefan Noesen in exchange for forward Bobby Ryan in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft
