AFTER MUCH DISAPPOINTMENT: BECAUSE OF UNFINISHED DEALS, NORWICH CITY HEAD COACH DECIDED TO RETIRE.

Dean Smith lost his job as head coach of Norwich City after just three wins in 13 Championship games.

Liam Bramley, the first-team coach, and Craig Shakespeare, the assistant manager, have also left Carrow Road.

Allan Russell and Steve Weaver have assumed interim leadership roles within the team.

“As the club continues to work towards its on-field objectives this season, the board believe that it is the right time to make this transition,” Norwich stated in a statement.

The team will now search for and select a new head coach who can execute a consistent style of play while producing the caliber of performances needed to contend at the top of the league.”

Following Blackburn’s 17 December home loss, Smith openly questioned the mindset of some supporters and stated that his team would have performed better on the road.

At the time, he said to BBC Radio Norfolk, “I think a lot of them have been waiting for this period to happen, or wanting it to – I don’t know.”

The 2-1 loss at Luton on Monday was the team’s third straight loss.

Stuart Webber, the sporting director for the Canaries, continued, “We thought that it was important to make this difficult decision.

offer ourselves the best opportunity of accomplishing our goal of being promoted to the Premier League this coming season.

“This was a tough decision, but one that we felt was necessary to give ourselves the best possible chance of achieving our objective of promotion to the Premier League this season,” Canaries sporting director Stuart Webber continued.

“With just under half of the season remaining and three consecutive home games on the horizon we now have a real opportunity to build some forward and positive momentum, both on and off the pitch.”

On October 1st, the Canaries were leading the table, but now they are in fifth place, 12 points behind the leaders.

Despite being named Daniel Farke’s replacement in November 2021, Smith failed to prevent their relegation to the Championship in the previous campaign.

During his four and a half years in charge, Farke led his team to two second-tier titles, but they were only able to compete in the Premier League for one season each time.

Smith started as a manager at Walsall and later went to Brentford and Aston Villa.

Under his direction, Villa advanced from the Championship in 2019 and made it to the Carabao Cup final in 2020.
