Eagles re-sign quarterback Evans through 2023.
Quarterback Dane Evans has been re-signed by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the organization announced on Wednesday. The American quarterback will remain in Hamilton through the 2023 season thanks to the two-year deal.

HAMILTON — Dane Evans has decided not to wait for the CFL free agency period to commence.
On Wednesday, the American quarterback was re-signed by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats through the 2023 campaign. The timing of Evans’ return to Hamilton is understandable given that he has always professed his satisfaction playing for the team. However, Evans stated after the season that he intended to test the CFL free agency market before choosing where he would play in 2022.
According to TSN’s Matthew Scianitti, Evans will start for the Ticats in 2022 and will no longer split time with Jeremiah Masoli.
Orlondo Steinauer, head coach and president of football operations at Hamilton, released a statement saying, “We’re excited that Dane and his family have chosen to stay in Hamilton for the next two seasons.” “Dane is an exceptional human person in addition to being a superb quarterback.
“His work ethic and authentic leadership skills make him someone that teammates naturally appreciate.”
Over the previous four seasons, Evans, 28, has started 18 games for Hamilton, including two Grey Cup games (2019, 2021). He has also played in one playoff game.
393 out of 562 passes (70%) for 4,924 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions have been completed by him. Additionally, Evans has gained 309 yards and six touchdowns from 66 rushes.
The Sanger, Texas, native completed four of nine passes for 21 yards last season, leading Hamilton to a second consecutive Grey Cup appearance before being forced to leave the game due to injury.
At Tim Hortons Field, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated Hamilton 33-25 in overtime after veteran Jeremiah Masoli replaced Evans at the end of the game.
Evans’ re-signing by Hamilton suggests that the team will probably let go of Masoli, 33, who is also expected to become a free agency in the CFL next month.
