DUE TO THE SETBACK OF THE TEAM,A KEY PLAYER FOR THE TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS, Bru McCoy, ANNOUNCE STEP DOWN TO THE TEAM.
The second quarter took the breath away from a boisterous Neyland Stadium. Looking to avenge their lopsided loss to South Carolina the previous year, Tennessee was winning handily until one of their key players suffered a severe and visible injury.
After making a grab, Bru McCoy became uncomfortably twisted, and you most likely saw the replay. No more justification is required. As McCoy was wheeled off, it became immediately apparent how serious his wound was.
Josh Heupel said, “Obviously, it doesn’t look good,” to Cole Cubelic of SEC Network. “I feel awful for the child. Not the toughest or better child in the nation.
Since coming to Knoxville, the 6-3, 220-pound senior has been a starter. After transferring from USC, McCoy—a former five-star recruit—found a starting position. He recorded 17 catches for 217 yards and a touchdown thus far this season, up from 667 yards and four touchdowns the previous year.
He was replaced on the field by Chas Nimrod and Kaleb Webb since Don’t’e Thornton wasn’t available.
Heupel responded, “Not any different than the guys you’ve seen lately,” when asked who would need to take the lead. “Kaleb Webb will need to perform at a very high level. Nimrod Chas. This evening, Dont’e (Thornton) wasn’t available. We ought to be able to bring him back and get him moving again. Leacock, Nathan. Due to the nature of the game, we have a number of guys who must fill the positions. It is inevitable. Man up next. They must be prepared for their chance. They must go and seize the opportunity.
After scoring a touchdown against UTSA last week, Webb is expected to play a bigger part moving forward. After receiving a lot of attention this offseason, Dont’e Thornton has had a poor start. However, in order for this passing approach to get traction, he must now pick up the pace.
Tennessee has a bye week to try and make things right if there’s any good news to report. On October 14th, the Volunteers will play Texas A&M again.
