DUE TO THE SETBACK OF THE TEAM,A KEY PLAYER FOR THE SEATTLE MARINERS, Taylor Trammell, ANNOUNCE STEP DOWN TO THE TEAM.
Baltimore: With just eight games and 26 plate appearances prior to Thursday’s contest, the sample size is small, but Taylor Trammell’s early performance and his better approach at the plate give the Mariners hope.
In that short amount of time, Trammell has a slash line of.333/.400/.667 with four doubles, a home run, five RBI, three walks, and five strikeouts.
Trammell has impressed general manager Jerry Dipoto and manager Scott Servais since he forced a month-long rehab assignment in Arizona following a devastating hamstring injury he sustained in Class AAA Tacoma’s third game of the season.
“He’s made some adjustments, and his swing path has changed,” Servais stated. His arrangement on the plate is somewhat unique. He is swinging into the plate and is not getting off as fast as he did in the beginning.
In addition to the physical, there is a mental shift.
“Unlike many young players who can get into that mode, he’s not trying to hit the ball 120 mph every time,” Servais remarked. “He is remaining nimble.” More than ever, he is tracking breaking balls. It’s encouraging to note that the hits have definitely reached the opposing field. There is power. There will be enough balls for him to rush into and knock over the barrier to the pull side. All he’s thinking about is being tough. Thus far, I believe he’s doing a good job at it.
In the loss on Wednesday, Trammell blasted two doubles, one of which was a 101-mph rocket to left-center field. His fly ball to left field was also hard.

“Even during my injury, I dedicated a significant amount of time this offseason to refining and concentrating on my strategy,” Trammell stated. “In the past, when I used this strategy, I felt like my bat trailed behind me a lot if I tried to hit it in the other direction. I was clipping a lot of balls that I should have been driving because I was getting below the ball. I have felt that my path has improved significantly thus far in the season, especially in Triple-A.
