DUE TO THE SETBACK OF THE TEAM,A KEY PLAYER FOR THE AJAX Amsterdam, Chuba Akpom, ANNOUNCE STEP DOWN TO THE TEAM.
After being rejected by Nigeria, AFC Ajax forward Chuba Akpom says he will spend the upcoming international break in London, according to Soccernet.ng.
After defecting from England, Akpom has declared himself eligible for selection for the Nigerian national team.
Before choosing to play for the powerful African team, the former Arsenal player represented England at the U16, U17, and U21 levels.
Nevertheless, since 2019, he has not been included in any Nigerian squads.
Akpom has not fared well in the Netherlands this season, following his success at Middlesbrough in the previous one.
But in 18 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax, the former PAOK forward has managed seven goals and one assist.
The Nigerian team that is getting ready to play international friendlies against Ghana and Mali later this month does not feature Akpom, despite his outstanding output.
Akpom would be traveling to London to consider Ajax’s dismal performances this season, while many of his colleagues would be leaving Amsterdam to join their national teams.
With his first words being, “I can’t wait to show what I can do,” the attacker, like Sven Mislintat, is excited about his time in Amsterdam, his role in the club, and scoring goals while wearing the Ajax shirt.
It’s enjoyable. I think this is a lovely site based on what I’ve observed. I’m hoping to get settled as soon as possible.
“I hope I can add some history to Ajax, as players like Suárez, Ibrahimovic, and others have represented the club at the highest level,” he said.
The football club’s name speaks for itself; thus, moving to Amsterdam was not a tough decision for Akpom, even though Ligue 1 and English Premiership teams made numerous offers.
The 27-year-old forward said, “You have to realize what this shirt represents when you put it on—the history and the success the club has had in Europe and the Netherlands.
