Excellent news: The former head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs has declared his return.
Following his team’s triumph over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs announced on Sunday that he will be playing in the NFL again in 2024 for the 26th time.
“I haven’t had time to think about it but yeah, sure,” Reid responded to reporters when they inquired about his plans to coach the Chiefs in the upcoming campaign.

Following the game, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt told NFL Network’s James Palmer that he anticipates Reid will return in 2024 as the team looks to capture a third consecutive championship.
“We have that conversation each off-season and so, you know, that’s a conversation we’ll have at the end of the year,” he explained. “However, I don’t think he’ll retire. He’s passionate about his work. I am aware that the team he leads gives him energy. He enjoys coaching Patrick Mahomes, I’m sure of it. He has a quarterback for the new generation. Thus, I’m excited that Andy will lead our team for many more years to come.”
Reid, who spent seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (1999–12) and the Chiefs (2013–present), now owns an outstanding 258–144–1 regular season record. His current career win total of 302 is fourth only to Don Shula (328), George Halas (318), and his contemporary, Bill Belichick.
In addition, he has won three championships, taken his teams to the postseason 19 times, and the Super Bowl five times.
As one of the most creative offensive minds in the game, Reid has worked throughout the years to elevate athletes like Tyreek Hill, Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Donovan McNabb to the pinnacle of their respective sports. His return will be welcomed by Kansas City.
