After being listed as not for sale, a standout athlete and formidable member of the Penn State Nittany Lions was eventually sold for an unstoppable sum of money—billions of dollars.

Penn State’s 2021 draft deals came to an end after Odafe Oweh inked a four-year, $11.3 million rookie contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

According to Spotrac, the six Lions taken in the NFL Draft have inked contracts worth a total of $45 million, making Penn State’s NFL value above $225 million.

Of Penn State’s draft picks, Oweh signed the second-highest contract after being chosen by the Ravens in the first round. According to Spotrac, his contract contains an average yearly salary of $2.8 million and a $5.6 million signing bonus.

The website offers interesting contract breakdowns for Penn State’s active NFL players in addition to contract information for players in other sports. With Bears receiver Allen Robinson ($46.5 million) at the top of the list, the group’s lifetime earnings total more than $300 million.

Entering his 17th season, kicker Robbie Gould has made roughly $43 million with five different teams, making him the longest-tenured NFL player from Penn State. Donovan Smith, a lineman for Tampa Bay, made $30.2 million, while Giants running back Saquon Barkley made $26.5 million. Two other players have made more than $20 million.

Spotrac’s analysis provides a useful overview of Penn State’s NFL value-adding opportunities. Penn State has nine current defensive linemen, including DaQuan Jones of Carolina and Carl Nassib, who in 2020 inked a three-year, $25.3 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Similar to Nassib, Oweh is a remarkable defensive success story at Penn State. At Blair Academy in New Jersey, where he started playing football as a junior, his extraordinary athleticism made him a first-round selection. In Baltimore, he plays outside linebacker, where his role is to rush the passer and cover runs.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh stated, “You talk about the sacks, but he’s going to run screens down.” He intends to pursue from behind and establish an advantage at the attack point. He’s going to be a football player with versatility. I believe our fans will be ecstatic when they see him sprint around and demonstrate how quickly he plays.”
