The District Court of Helsinki has sentenced Calgary Flames draft pick Topi Ronni to one year of suspended prison for rape committed when he was a minor.

On Tuesday, Tappara Tampere, Ronni’s Finnish Elite League squad, announced on their website that their contract had been canceled.

Later on Tuesday, the Flames, who selected Ronni in the second round of the 2022 NHL draft (59th overall), declared that they have forfeited their rights to the unsigned player, going forward.

When Ronni was initially indicted in October, his Finnish team announced he was leaving the squad to undergo an investigation while he was under investigation in Finland.

Ronni was a minor in 2021 when the incident happened.
