SAD NEWS AND BAD RECORD: Two players from the Philadelphia Phillies were arrested while suspended for beating their team announcer to death for just two reasons.
The Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing their roster at this stage in the winter to include players they hope to see in spring training.
This includes assigning various players to assignments, which creates the opportunity for other teams in the league to claim these players off waivers and incorporate them into their rosters.
Good news for the Phillies: two of their players were able to travel straight to their Triple-A affiliate after clearing waivers without being claimed.
Among them was Andrew Bellatti, who struggled the previous season despite seeing a lot of action out of their bullpen in 2022. It’s hoped he can get back on track and make a contribution this year.
With two other players they designated for assignment to clear space on their 40-man roster, the Phillies weren’t quite as fortunate.
Diego Castillo is an infielder that the Baltimore Orioles have claimed off waivers, per Roch Kubatko of MASN.
The right-handed pitcher McKinley Moore of the New York Yankees was also claimed off waivers, according to the Phillies’ official social media account.
Following his 2022 acquisition from the Chicago White Sox in a trade, the 25-year-old primarily played for Philadelphia’s Double-A and Triple-A clubs.
Moore had three appearances in Major League Baseball last season, but his outing was appalling—he gave up seven earned runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.
