According to The Athletic, Nakken is believed to be the first woman to be a serious candidate for the top uniformed position on a Major League Baseball team.

When the 33-year-old was hired to the MLB coaching staff in 2020, she made history as the first female coach. When former manager Gabe Kapler was hired, she was one of thirteen coaches assembled.

Mark Hallberg, the coach of third base, and bench coach Kai Correa were reportedly mentioned as internal contenders to succeed Kapler, who was fired in September.

Nakken has been an assistant coach in San Francisco for the previous four seasons, specializing in baserunning, outfield training, and pregame preparation.

Additionally, she was acknowledged for playing a crucial role in the Giants’ franchise-high 107 victories in 2021 as a dugout liaison to pinch hitters.

When Nakken filled in as the first base coach during an MLB game on April 12, 2022, she made history as the first female coach on the field.

The 33-year-old played softball for Sacramento State, where she was an all-conference player, before interning in baseball operations with the Giants in 2014.

Nakken stated in 2020 that she was interested in become a manager and/or bench coach after her first season, adding that she would eventually like to take on a managerial post.
